2010 The year we make contact. 

I remember the hype for this movie. The anticipation. The fever. 

Oh man, even Siskel and Ebert were waiting. Too see if it can copy the first one. Or well to see what kind of movie it
would be. 

This movie was the follow up to the most iconic sci fi movie ever made. 

What direction
will it go in? Will it try to keep the first movies atmoshpere? If so, will the movie use classical music? 

Will it warp the chance and ruin everything? I mean everything? 

I must admit, sitting in the theater
absorbing this movie was a treat. Just not what I thought at the time. The original movie was like a silent flick. Lots
of imagery. This movie is a talkie movie. Everything is explained out. Not much is left for the thinking part except
where the aliens are concerned. 

I also noticed this movie went for the social change aspect instead of
trying to follow up the first flick. 

At the time, the cold war was in full swing. Common knowledge included
the bomb. How it could happen, how it could end everything. Hence the theme of the terminator flicks. 

So,
the whole theme is about that. About how we as humans are going to kill each other over conflicts that can be worked
out. 

I agree that this movie is told well. Excellent with the filming and explaining the perils of long
space travel. You may not make it back. 

But, the hard core 2001 fan was not amused. The hard core 2001 fan
expected something like the first. Something. 

So this edit is exactly that. 

This is my first
edit I ever tried. 2 years before anyone even seen it. 

There are a ton of edits and I am sorry not to
include a change list. 

One will be included once I redo this movie in high def. This one is sourced from a
dvd. 

Here is a short list. 

-Removed the voice overs. Now there is music to hopefully set a tone.

-No more major conflict with war. It is there but in the background.  Now the focus is on the mission and not the
nuclear war or rather the cold war. 
-Inserted text and removed dialog that explains everything. Now the movie
assumes you know something about space travel. 
-Slightly different ending.
