Alexander Alabiev (numerous alternate spellings are used) had an interesting life. A decorated war hero who joined the Russian army to fight Napoleon in 1812, he was tried in 1825 for the suspicious death of a drinking partner, exiled and spent much of the rest of the time writing operas, musical plays and lieder. He also wrote some orchestra music, often overtures and incidental pieces like these examples. While not as obscure as a lot of my recent uploads he doesn't get much torrent love which is a shame as his stuff is powerful, evocative and quintessentially Russian
