Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio.
 

  Elton John is growing funk at #14, but not for any of us. "Grow Some Funk Of Your Own" is his 15 consecutive Top
20 hit.
  
  Casey says there are 7 remakes this week: "Deep Purple" by Donny & Marie Osmond (at #23),
"Tangerine" by the Salsol Orchestra (at #17), "Cupid" by Tony Orlando & Dawn (at #31), "Only Sixteen" by Dr. Hook
(at #30), "Tracks Of My Tears" by Linda Ronstadt (at #25, Casey plays a sample of Smokey's version), "Baby Face" by The
Wing and a Prayer Fife and Drum Corps (at #15), and "Breaking Up" Is Hard To Do" by Neil Sedaka (at #13). But I demand a
recount because "Love Hurts" by Nazareth (at #10) was already a remake when the Everly Brothers and Roy Orbison did it,
and "Lonely Night (Angel Face)" by The Captain & Tennille (at #9) was another Neil Sedaka composition and he
recorded it in 1975 (I don't know if he told anybody though).
  
  Casey says this is only the third time in
chart history that a TV theme has made number one. This week it is the theme from "S.W.A.T." by Rhythm Heritage.
 

  Casey reads a letter that says, "I've been wondering if any solo singers besides Donovan & Lulu have used
only first names on their Top 40 hits." Casey names 10 more but leaves out Ernie who sang "Rubber Duckie" in 1970.

 
  A listener wants to know, "Who had the most songs in the Top 40 during 1975?" Casey calls it a tie between male
and female solo-singers who each had five in '75.
  
  Another listener asks if there have ever been any
records to hit the Top 40 by an actor or an actress who wasn't normally considered a singer. Casey says ten of them have
hit the Top 10!
  
  Casey remembers Al Jolson, an entertainer who became such a legend in his own time that
two major motion pictures were made about his life while he was still alive and still working.
