Nasmak (originally: Nasmaak, meaning ‘aftertaste’) was a Dutch
experimental new wave band (1978) that met with international acclaim for combining traditional rock instruments with
sound experimentations like tapes and the so-called kraakdoos or crackle-box.

This is a custom made
battery-powered noise-making electronic device.
It is a small box with six metal contacts on top, which when
pressed by fingers will generate all manner of unusual sounds and tones. The human body becomes a part of the circuit
and determines the range of sounds possible — different people will generate different results.
The concept
was first conceived by Michel Waisvisz and Geert Hamelberg in the 1960s, and developed further in the 1970s when
Waisvisz joined the STEIM foundation in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The kraakdoos is a simple device, based on a single
operational amplifier (one of the earliest models to be produced) and a few transistors, and can be easily constructed
by someone with a basic understanding of electronics.

In 1978 the band joins forces with singer Truus de
Groot who also performs under the name + Instruments. She is a former member of the Foolsband, precursor of Doe Maar.

In 1980 their first album, Nasmak Plus Instruments/Instruments Plus Nasmak, appears, receiving very positive
acclaim, heralded by John Peel as the best album from the European continent in years.
Nasmak became the first
Dutch band to record a Peel Session.

Truus de Groot moves to New York in 1981 and founds a new band
+Instruments, with amongst others, Lee Ranaldo on guitar. This band produces one EP called Februari-April.
In 1982 Nasmak releases their best album, 4our Clicks, described as possibly the best album by a Dutch group ever.

In 1984 the band is dissolved.
