this series fed the nation's growing interest in
paranormal 
suspense in a different way. Rather than creating fictional 
stories with supernatural twists and
turns, this program sought 
out 'real' stories of the supernatural, including ghosts, 
disappearances, monsters, etc., and re-creating them for each 
episode. No solutions to these mysteries were ever
found, and 
viewers could only scratch their heads and wonder, 
"what if it's real?"

Unlike other horror series of the
time, One Step Beyond  purported to tell 
true stories of the fantastic. Most of the episodes could be described as

being “inspired” rather than “based” on actual events, and some events are 
so little
documented as to be little more than “urban legend.” However, 
this should not detract from the
viewer’s enjoyment.
Created by Merwin Gerard and produced by Collier Young, One Step Beyond was 
hosted
byJohn Newland, "your guide to the supernatural" (also credited as 
"Our guide into the world of the
unknown"). Newland presented tales that 
explored paranormal events and various situations that defied
"logical" 
explanation. This ran for three seasons on ABC, January 1959 to July 1961.
A number of
well-known names appear in the credits of these episodes, including 
Elizabeth Montgomery, Charles Bronson,
Christopher Lee, Suzanne Pleshette, 
and William Shatner. 
This collection is from a 4-DVD set of the 50 best
episodes.
