[1969]. When Roberta Ellison loses her husband it is obvious she cannot live alone as she was crippled in a
motor accident some years earlier. Her half-sister Camilla comes to stay with her in Madeira to fill the gap while they
find a live-in companion/nurse. Roberta is not a very pleasant person so Camilla is keen to get back to London and
resume her own life and career. A young woman named Julie is found to take the job but Roberta finds fault with her and
she leaves. The replacement is not at all suitable and things start to happen which include the murder, in Roberta's
sitting room, of a well-known criminal. The suspects include Camilla's friend Christopher, who arranged for Joanne,
Julie's replacement, to join the household, the dead gangster's son and Julie's brother who has come to Madeira to
demand an apology from Roberta and Camilla for accusing Julie of theft. The end result is very twisted and the real
