Description
This upload of Upstairs, Downstairs is different from the previous one I made.
This upload contains four of the eight episodes in Season 1. It is to give viewers a sample of what the complete series of some 60 episodes might be like.
When I was enjoying the BBC series of movies such as Rebecca, Jane Eyre, Tess of the D'Urbervilles and The Way We Live Now and others, I kept hearing about The forsyte Saga and Upstairs, Downstairs. These two were vaguely familiar to me, but I had never been able to see any of them. I knew they were expensive, and one had to buy lots of DVDs. I was not about to do that, classic or no classic. So I got the first disc only of each of them.
Fortunately The Forsyte Saga has subtitles. That was becoming important to me along about this time. Upstairs, Downstairs, I didn't know about either way, so I got the first disc of that series just to see what's what. As it turned out U,D had no subtitles, and that turned me away from it. That's the main reason I ended up having the other series.
So, now that I had only the very first disc in Upstairs, Downstairs I decided to try writing subtitles for just the first of the four episodes available to me. It was hard work. Fast talk, sometimes overlapping with another speaker, as well as trying to decypher different dialects wore me out. But I succeeded and decided to upload it. You can see the outcome my first upoad of this movie. That, at least, made it possible for my wife to enjoy it.
She liked it. I said, "Nothing doing."
I hope you like it better than I did. The commentary in the attached text file makes you think it's the best, ever. No closed captions, or course.
